The weekly preview is cut short for this week and the next couple as I'm heading to Egypt for a couple of weeks. I'll try and get as much access as possible but updates may be a bit limited:
I could have done with some fantasy football tips, because Gameweek 9 turned out to be pretty catastrophic. A Bosingwa red card hasn't really helped either. Roll on the wildcard in January!
Comments like number 2 above really irk me. There was a similar one on an update a few weeks back angry because Chris hadn't replied and it was approaching the deadline.
Chris has been sharing his opinions and analysis with us. He does not have a duty to post regularly or even at all.
He's not going to pick your team each week, but he is sharing his methods used in deciding his own team.
Why the apology? You did nothing wrong. It was just something you asked kindly. Never mind them. Many people overreact to small posts like that. If there is no new update, no new updates then. We'll be told by Chris later.
Let these people get irked and annoyed with posts like that. We'll move on with things. I have no idea why that would offend or annoy anybody. Seriously.
Can I pick your brain, on a question, that's been nagging me since Sunday..
This is my question: I’m in a dilemma here. I’m an ardent Man Utd fan, and I’ve got both Rooney and Nani in my fantasy squad, since the beginning of FPL this season; and I was quite happy with. But with both aggregating dismal points in the last three games, as compared with their counter parts(with the same price tag); my fantasy rank sunk considerably. I was not bothered though as the fixture list was tough, but looking at Everton’s match, Rooney played very deep and Nani came off the bench. The freaking rapture trumpets are sounding and it’s worrying times for me, to say the least.
What do you say, should I stick with them(as the fixture list looks easy), or Should I go the Van Persie(whose fixture list is also easy) route as like everyone. And in regard with Nani, should I dump him and bring in Mata(as he’s the only Chelsea player to be consistent) or Adam (as Gerrard is injured and the path looks even clearer). Please do suggest, I’m pulling my hair out, as well as anyone near me…?
I was in the exact position as you are about a week ago. What I did was I used up my free transfer on Van Persie and sold Rooney until he shows some fantasy consistency then I'd reconsider him.
I don't know what's going on in SAF's head but Nani's recent benching duties in two games already shows that people gotta start looking elsewhere like Mata who shows promising presence and likely to start and finish 90 minutes. It might be good to go for him but I'd stay patient with Nani first.
I still keep Nani because United have good fixtures until December or January so he might nick in a few goals and some bloggers are confident SAF will start Nani once again on a regular basis.
As for Rooney, I'd suggest you swap him for Van Persie. It's hard to ignore Van Persie with his form like that, especially this weekend, Arsenal is up against West Brom at their own ground so you might expect a few goals from him. Besides, he was benched in the UEFA CL games and this might give you a tip Arsene Wenger expects to start him tomorrow. Captain him too!
I always look at global high point earners to get an idea what makes them stay top of the game with what kind of players to earn from. It just might give you something. Hehe.
There's one thought, that's hauntiny me. With the International break coming up, RVP being an injury prone player, can quite simply pick up an injury and be back in the infirmary in a jiffy.
As the season ticks on, we're starting to get a bit of data to work with, albeit sometimes in small samples. This season I am not working with a relatively complex player model but am really interested in trying to "play the fixtures" as much as I can. A couple of sources of frustration, therefore, have been as below: 1. Sites which provide the difficulty of fixtures often seem a bit simplistic. For example, the Premier League site shows Wolves as an average "3-rated" opponent, both at home and away yet the reality is more complicated. While at home they have been very solid defensively, with an Expected Goals Conceded (xGC) of just 4.71 in five games, which ranks third best, yet on their travels they have surrendered 7.94 xGC, which is the third worst . Even more confusing is that most sites ( though not all ) don't distinguish between attacking and defensive fixtures, so facing Leeds at home is presented as an easy "2-rated" fixture when in reali
We talked about this earlier in the season, but with a couple more games in the bag, I've updated the viz which attempts to help you choose your defenders. The "All Players" tab should in theory help you do this coming with a blank slate, but the r aison d'etre for the viz is to help you choose between players in the same side, once you've decided that, for example, you want a City defender. The viz can be found linked from the main menu , and here and should be opened separately to best read this piece. A few notes as of GW5 below. Arsenal I'm not sure how much value there is with this defense right now, but if you are planning to play the fixtures and take a chance with one of Emery's men, this would suggest it should be Mustafi rather than the 10% owner Bellerin who you should target. Bournemouth Cook is the man here for now, though if a clear winner emerges from the developing Daniels vs Rico battle then one of those players could topple him b
Happy holidays everyone; it's been a while. For those not on Twitter, I was away in Costa Rica over the break without much - if any - internet access hence the lack of posts around these electronic pages. Well, actually, that's only the main reason, not the only one. In truth I've become a bit disillusioned with the fantasy game the past couple of months, partly due to my other commitments which make copying data at 2am somewhat less appealing, partly due to a lack of excitement in this year's game and finally due to the constant frustration I have with today's internet culture. This blog is a labour of love and aside from the small amount of money I made from the pre-season guide many of you graciously purchased, I don't get much out of this beyond the enjoyment of interacting with readers and hopefully helping a few of you to gain a couple of extra fantasy points every now and then. While some of that enjoyment remains, I feel it has waned over time and th

Do it quickly...
Buddy, read the very first sentence on the very first post at the very top of the page.
Chris has been sharing his opinions and analysis with us. He does not have a duty to post regularly or even at all.
He's not going to pick your team each week, but he is sharing his methods used in deciding his own team.
Kudos Chris and thanks. Enjoy your holiday!
Now come on Adebayor, you're due a hat trick....
Chris did say he was going to post up before the deadline that gameweek few weeks ago, and he didn't. That's alright.
And nobody pushed the matter further or anything. It was just a regular comment to ask something. Not sure why you feel the need to bring that up.
I've just asked for an update, that's all. I'm lost as to how, these two lines can actually offend someone.
Nonetheless, I apologise again to all; and especially to the guy, I irked.
Mr.Glover, I admire your statistical analysis skill, and the info you provide each week helps me pick my team....
Why the apology? You did nothing wrong. It was just something you asked kindly. Never mind them. Many people overreact to small posts like that. If there is no new update, no new updates then. We'll be told by Chris later.
