Foster no hope

Image
With Van der Sar's return to the reserves tonight, and Foster's continued struggle between the posts for the first team, it is likely that the English World Cup hopeful will see the end of his extended run and be replaced for gameweek 9 after the international break. At 5m he has provided decent fantasy value over the past 8 weeks and is currently held by 8% of fantasy managers. We are not seeing a massive amount of selling yet so there is no rush to act, but his owners will want to move him on assuming Van der Sar proves his fitness as 5m is too much for a 'keeper to warm your bench. The question is therefore who to get to replace him. I am not a fan of expensive keepers as 'save' points are the great equaliser that makes 'keepers from lower teams almost as valuable as the big boys. Add to that the strong performances of Birmingham, Burnley (at home) and Stoke this year and bargains can clearly be found. Last season 11 'keepers were within 36 points of ea...

Minimum price squad fillers - Goalkeepers

Image
As we start to assemble our new teams, it is inevitable that in order to satisfy our thirst for stars - Gerrard (12.5), Lampard (12.5) or Torres (11.5) - we will need to save money elsewhere in our squad. This first post will focus on the goalkeepers available for the minimum price (4m) Thomas Sorensen Based on last year's points Sorensen is clearly the pick of the bargains and appears undervalued, having outscored the likes of Robert Green (5m) and David James (5m) last year. The key to Sorensen's value is that Stoke are so solid at home. When looking for a sub keeper the total goals conceded is not so much of an issue (its unlikely for you to play Sorensen when he visits Old Trafford for example). The key is that you can rely on the sub when the matchup is good, an area in which Stoke excelled last year. They conceded just 15 goals at home, keeping no less than 9 clean sheets and only conceded more than 1 goal once after struggling in their first three games. Sorensen ...

The season so far . . .

Image
So far its been a pretty successful season, having scored 466 points and lying 620th place after gameweek 8. However, having already used my wildcard to get into the Ronaldo sweepstakes, it is vital that I use my transfers wisely over the coming weeks. A quick look at my team in terms of Points per Million Spent makes interesting reading (I have assumed that I will captain Ronaldo every week): E.Van der Sar The big Dutchman has been a great acquisition for me, notching 3 clean sheets in the 3 games I've had him. Indeed he's been great value all season notching 4 clean sheets in the 6 full games he's played. I can't see why he is still 5.9m and I am sure he will rise in value in the next couple of weeks. With United facing only one hard game over the next 5 (@Ars) now is as good a time as any to buy Van der Sar. M.Schwarzer I'm pleased with Schwarzer's value and only Myhill (4m) has scored more points for the same value. Sorenson and Turnbull are also decent buy...
