Most of the transfer dealings of the past few months have been discussed at large so I'm not going to labour over every signing and let you know that van Persie is going to do well at Old Trafford or that the loss of Wayne Bridge probably won't end City's title challenge this year. There are however several transfers whose impact needs to be further explored, not just for the arriving player, but also for the existing players whose role or playing time can be impacted. Please also note the absence of the phrase 'window slamming shut' which appears to be a mandatory term for a well known deadline ending for another year. Original metaphor ideas should be forwarded to your local media outlet immediately. Arsenal The three big signings of Podolski, Cazorla and Giroud are already bedded into the team and have had a major impact already. All three look like they are going to play significant minutes this year leaving Walcott, Gervinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain figh...

Lineup Lessons Gameweek 22

Arsenal Szczesny, Djourou, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Rosicky, Song, Ramsey, Walcott, van Persie, Oxlade-Chamberlain Subs: Almunia, Park, Squillaci, Arshavin, Benayoun, Miquel, Yennaris. It was a pleasant surprise to see Oxlade-Chamberlain in their starting lineup given the recent struggles of Arshavin. He didn't disappoint either, impressing with his movement, composure and football IQ (sorry, Theo) which led to a good assist for Van Persie's goal. We're always looking for fantasy value in this Arsenal team and at 5.7m Ox has some makings of that very player. However, this was his first league start and only his third appearance so be careful not to get carried away here. Maybe Wenger decides to throw him out there for the rest of the season (he can't be much worse than Arshavin and Walcott have been at times this year) but it's too risky to make that leap right now. I want to say more, but there just isn't much else of interest in this lineup. A...

Notebook Preview: Fulham

Looking back at last season 14 clean sheets last year ranked third overall yet the team averaged over a GPG conceded at home and on the road. Their home ranking was just 11th in that category. Led the league in GPG away from home (1.05) and were one of three teams to have a better road record than home (with Everton and Wigan). Racked up 9 clean sheets in the second half of the season, with just 5 in the first Managed a solid 1.58 GPG at home but disappointed on the road with just 1.0 GPG including six zeros. Keepers racked up 151 points, the league's best total, representing the best value for money around ( P$ 1.067) at home. This was greatly helped by Stockdale's production for a budget price. The defensive unit was also a great investment, with the 6th most total points delivering a league best P$ mark of 0.727.  Four midfielders (Dempsey, Davies, Murphy and Duff) all topped 90 points with the unit ranking 9th in points and 4th in P$ . Front line struggl...

The new fantasy season is upon us, and a few thoughts initially spring to mind: Rule changes Not too much to note here, aside from two interesting tweaks to the rules: 1. "If you don't use your free transfer then you'll be able to make an additional free transfer the following gameweek. These saved transfers don't accumulate and can only be used the following gameweek". This allows for a build up of two free transfers for one gameweek which make double gameweeks even more valuable. 2. Creation of the 'emergency captain' selection tool. This suggests that if your captain does not play your most valuable/in form player will take the armband from him. This is not a major issue, as there are very few times when a marquee player does not play without us knowing with sufficient time to the make the adjustment. Position changes A couple of interesting classifications here that could lead to decent value being found: Andrey Arshavin (M) - Rightfully moved from a F...
