League Links

One of my favorite daily columns to read is Buster Olney's daily baseball blog post which gives links from around the league, serving as a one stop shop for anyone wanting to keep up to date. I am therefore going to try and humbly replicate a similar post here either every day or every other day depending on how much good stuff I can find. Any recommended links (great stories, videos, breaking news etc) would be welcomed either by posting below or sending the link to @plfantasy. Also any feedback on whether people like the post and/or find it useful would be welcomed. As always thanks for reading and enjoy the below feast of footballing goodness:

The Chatter
One of my former favorite players, Frank Leboeuf, thinks Chelsea are too old and must beat Man Utd this week. Ferguson however suggests that Chelsea's problem is their lack of depth compared to prior years. Another former legend, Marcel Desailly, feels that the criticism of Ancelotti is laughable and is confident good times will return to Stamford Bridge.

The Star think Shearer is set for a return to Ewood though management suggest interim boss Steve Kean has a couple of months to prove himself and could earn himself the job 'forever' if he impresses. Sadly for the entertainment of the league, Maradona is said to be "nowhere near to being considered" at the current time.

Alan Hutton thinks that Spurs are dark horse title contenders and need to be taken seriously. Gomes thinks they'll have to tighten up at the back if trophies are to be won though.

Mancini will talk with Tevez on Friday to sort out the Argentinian's future at the club. Meanwhile the Guardian suggest Silva is actually City's best player.

The Gossip

Mark Hughes will once again hook up with Santa Cruz with Fulham ready to splash 10m on the want away City forward.

Stephen Ireland could be on the move again, this time to Everton.

Stoke maintain that Shawcross is going nowhere but I am dreaming of a 4.7m qualit defender at one of the big teams.

The Diagnosis
Odenwingie is set to miss out once again for West Brom this week Tchoyi might start up front to compensate.

Almunia is confirmed as out and Fabianski could also miss the game, handing Szczesny his second start in a week.

Agbonlahor is back in contention for Villa and has a nice matchup this week with Wigan.

Torres should return this week but Gerrard remains a doubt for the visit of Fulham

Thomas 'the Hammer' Hitzelsperger has penciled in his return date for February 2011.

The Other Bits
A really sad story from the lower leagues with Rushden keeper Dale Roberts taking his own life after his fiancee had an affair with Paul Terry (brother of John).

If found guilty, Steve Jennings appears to have done one of the worst jobs of covering up corruption in history. Surely a guilty party would be subtler?

Quote of the Day
Samir Nasri on his feud with Williams Gallas - "That is not me. I am not a two-faced so-and-so. When I don't like someone I tell them to their face and I don't shake their hand. We don't like one another, the entire world knows this, and he even wrote about it in his book".

Highlight of the Day
One for the Chelsea fans ahead of their crunch game against United, taking us back to 1999. If you ever wanted to see the impact of the Roman Abramovich era on a team, look at the Chelsea goalscorers. Chris Sutton, Jody Morris, Gus Poyet (2) and a Henning Berg OG. Poyet had some talent but Morris and Sutton? Let's just say they wouldn't be breathing down Drogba and Essien's necks.
