Gameweek 7: Ramble On

We're seven weeks in and we're really starting to get a good idea on who we can rely and what trends are for real. I thought - in honor of the title of this weekly post - I would employ the help of Led Zeppelin to help explain the season so far: "Been dazed and confused for so long it's not true" Though the top five has a familiar look, the rest of pack appears upside down and fantasy value has been scattered throughout the league with minnows like Blackpool and West Brom providing good fantasy picks while teams like Liverpool and Everton have struggled to contribute. One of the lessons as always is to play the fixtures, which explain why Everton's midfield and forwards (hardest attacking schedule to date) have struggled while Birmingham's defense (2nd easiest defensive schedule) have provided some value. More confusing is the fact that West Brom have conceded 6 in 6 since GW2 while facing one of the hardest schedules around while Spurs have managed just ...

Mid Priced Strikers

Image
I made reference to this new strategy earlier in the week, which to be honest isn't all that new or clever, just something I wanted to sound out to see what people think of it. The idea is to forget the likes of Torres and Drogba, and even Anelka and Keane. The plan is to get 3 strikers for around 7m each which should then leave sufficient money to get 4 quality defenders and midfielders, allowing a rotation of the front three. The argument behind this strategy is that these mid range strikers, if selected based on form and fixtures, can all but match the bigger names, which just isn't possible with defenders and to a lesser extent midfielders (where exceptions - Ireland - can be found). Candidates The best candidate so far this season is Amr Zaki , who after missing three games lately still heads this list. His value has fallen to 6.9m which makes it a great time to buy the big Egyptian. Wigan's next 7 games are against opponents who all give up more than a goal a game, an...

Gameweek 15 Diary

Apologies for the lack of action this week, I've been away for a few days, but thankfully back in time for this week's action. I've brought in Figueroa this week for the injured Dawson as I go 4-5-1 to allow for Zaki's injury and Cole facing Liverpool. 14:57 The team news is in from around the country with a couple of fantasy impacting moves. Luke Young has been passed fit to face Fulham which makes him a great buy at 4.4m. His team mate Carew misses out which will likely mean Ashley Young playing a more advanced role. Still no Dawson for Hull, whilst Daniel Cousin drops to the bench as Phil Brown goes 4-5-1. Bolton are unchanged, where as Sunderland welcome back Scotland international Craig Gordon between the posts. Melchiot has failed to fully recover for Wigan so Taylor retains his spot at right back. 15:00 News comes out that Jimmy Bullard is wearing a scarf! Come on Jimmy, I thought you were a man's man. I will now boycott him until at least March for my team. ...
